Its kind of ingrained into us …. and i mean that in a good way.

The video was an initiative to instill a sense of pride and dignity for our country and its diversity in the people. A marketing campaign for the country .

Since it was broadcast for the first time on 15th August 1988, I’ve seen it countless times.

As a kid i remember singing along whenever it came on air, irrespective of the fact that the only three languages that made sense to me were Gujarati, Hindi and Marathi.

I fumbled the words to the rest of the languages and my volume would rise high for a language i could sing along with and it would turn down to a murmur for those that i couldn’t. With my …. ummm …. “glorious” voice i am sure i must’ve bought tears of suffering to my mother who would be around whenever i burst into impromptu singing.

Eventually i mastered the art of singing it even without having a clue as to what i was singing. There was something about the tune and how it would fade out into the notes of the national anthem. Something quite uplifting and joyous about it.

It made me, a kid, sing along at the top of my voice although i had no idea why and i loved it.

I came across it today and had a bout of nostalgia …. here’s the video.

Soumyadip has put up a version of this video with subtitles for the lyrics which is great to sing along with. Head over to his blog for that version – Cutting the Chai: Mile Sur Mera Tumhara (With Subtitles and Credits)

The day man first set foot on the moon.

I can’t ever imagine what it must’ve felt like to see the Earth from 250,000 Miles Away. To actually be able to separate yourself from Earth and look at it in a setting which most of us have only seen in photographs or movies.

Neil Armstrong, Michael Collins and Buzz Aldrin were the chosen 3 to be the first on a manned mission to the moon. All of them were veterans and had previously made space flights before. Even then i would believe that the expectation of landing on the Moon and seeing things around you in Space, the apprehension of doing something never done before.

To literally go where no man has gone before.

I wish i could’ve been one of them. To be in space, the cosmos and see the darkness all around you, to see the glimmering white and blue Earth in a distance and to know that you are on the Moon, 250,000 Miles away from home. And you are part of an event that is a major Footnote in the history of mankind.

Years of research, years of hard work. A lot of it could’ve gone wrong, but it didn’t.

The event and the Apollo 11 Mission are a standing testament to Science. To the people behind the scenes who made it happen, to the people who worked so hard, to the people who dared to dream.

Hats off to you guys.

I can unashamedly say that everytime i watch this video i just go all speechless and lost. This is real beauty.

Just caught this AD on the telly and I think its brilliant. Some ad’s are brilliant while some are utter crap and then again some have the power to leave you speechless.
Why can’t we have more ad’s which are like this one.
Its brilliantly executed, gets the point across, doesn’t mince on words, and politely but [...]
