“Money doesn’t change men, It merely unmasks them. If a Man is naturally selfish or greedy, the Money brings that out, that’s all.” – Henry Ford

These days I’ve been experiencing life as opposed to just living it. To be honest a lot of it is unpleasant.
Actually, that’s not true, It’s not life that’s unpleasant its some of the people that i bump into that make it seem like that. Life by itself is very beautiful.

This is a personal rant and might be boring and will be very very very non-specific because i know that the person towards whom this post is directed is never going to read it. The person assumes that they are beyond such things and have better things to do in life.

I really don’t have any objections to how somebody wants to live their life. Though I’d love to not be judgemental, But I’d be lying if i said that I am not.

There’s this person, “person” because i will definitely puke if i associate the word friend with that entity, who I’ve known for a while. I’ve had the opportunity of knowing this person and through this association i have also known how their life has panned out in the last few years. I have also seen the transformation and Today was a revelation to the extent of that transformation. The transformation hasn’t just been in terms of greed but in overall demeanor. From a normal person to somebody who is arrogant and stuck up, somebody totally full of themselves and so money minded that i can see “$” in their eyes even without trying.
I don’t have a problem with a miser, a miser looks to save his own money by scrounging on something and denying himself that thing.

But i positively despise a leech. A leech is a parasite who feeds off others. Yes, thats a brilliant way to describe this person. A Slimy Leech.

To be honest it would be an insult for the leech to relate this person to a leech. I can safely say that i haven’t seen such a specimen ever before in my life and i hope to god that i don’t ever come across one again.

The only sad thing is that till now i used to live my life thinking that people are inherently honest, truthful and have integrity and morals. This one person will change that outlook for a while to come and will make me wary in general. I’ve tried to convince myself that it really isn’t necessary to generalise because of one person. But that will probably take a while to sink in.

To end with, the Mahatma again got it right,

“There is enough in the world for every man’s need, but not every man’s greed.”

Have you ever heard how your voice sounds coming through the amplifiers of passion?

There is a distinct resonance that it has, an almost unbreakable quality which transcends reason. And there in lies the problem.

Passion is all consuming. It strains the reins of reason, which is all that channels it to fulfil its destiny.

Passion clouds Reason.

To make one heard the other has to be masked.

Passion disregards the need for reason to channel itself. While reason heeds not the wild notions of passion.

Ignorant are they both … They do not realise that it is not in their individuality that they should revel, but in their duality.

Within each is hidden a secret desire to be what the other is and within each is the power to obliterate the other.

What if, at times … it just doesn’t seem to be worth the search?

What if in the echoing silence all around there are screams of chaos? What when, the silence is more deafening than the screams?

We fall, stumble, get up and dust ourselves and march on with heads held high … for how long? Sometimes the march itself is aimless. What happens when you are moving in circles?

What happens when axioms remain just that … axioms, but are eventually no closer to the truth than truth itself. What happens when the hollowness is all ensuing and omnipresent.

What happens when reflections are empty and all you see is the void. What if the presence of the void is scarier than the void itself?

What happens when things that matter run through their shelf life?

What happens when the questions just remain questions and the answer, even though present, isn’t an answer?

What happens when all you see in the void are vestigial fragments of a once delirious vision, floating in the murky waters of a fragmented conscious?

Sometimes … It takes so much more to sit and watch the world go by.

Its kind of ingrained into us …. and i mean that in a good way.

The video was an initiative to instill a sense of pride and dignity for our country and its diversity in the people. A marketing campaign for the country .

Since it was broadcast for the first time on 15th August 1988, I’ve seen it countless times.

As a kid i remember singing along whenever it came on air, irrespective of the fact that the only three languages that made sense to me were Gujarati, Hindi and Marathi.

I fumbled the words to the rest of the languages and my volume would rise high for a language i could sing along with and it would turn down to a murmur for those that i couldn’t. With my …. ummm …. “glorious” voice i am sure i must’ve bought tears of suffering to my mother who would be around whenever i burst into impromptu singing.

Eventually i mastered the art of singing it even without having a clue as to what i was singing. There was something about the tune and how it would fade out into the notes of the national anthem. Something quite uplifting and joyous about it.

It made me, a kid, sing along at the top of my voice although i had no idea why and i loved it.

I came across it today and had a bout of nostalgia …. here’s the video.

Soumyadip has put up a version of this video with subtitles for the lyrics which is great to sing along with. Head over to his blog for that version – Cutting the Chai: Mile Sur Mera Tumhara (With Subtitles and Credits)
